Backcountryhunter.net is a blog built to provide detailed reviews of all the gear we need as backcountry hunters. Whether that be packs, tents, optics, clothing or just the gear lists that we use. Jason and Steve spend the better part of the year out in the field using and testing gear and are always looking for anything to make their hunts more successful.
Who we are:
Steve is the owner of S&S Archery which was founded in 2009, Its an online archery store specializing in backcountry Hunting for the western archer. He is also the designer and founder of Solid Broadheads as well as Co-owner of Pure Elevation Productions which does short films and can be seen on Elite Archery’s ‘Respect the Game’ TV show which airs on the Sportmans Channel.
His latest project in conjunction with his hunting partner Lenny Nelson is Exo Mountain Gear, founded in 2013 the goal was to make an Ultralight but functional back country hunting pack. The first packs will be shipping spring and summer of 2014.
Jason having grown up in rural southern Idaho spends the better part of his year up in the hills. Whether shed hunting in the spring, scouting in the summer or hunting in the fall there aren’t too many days in the year you won’t find him outside. His main passion however is chasing high country Mule Deer. He has killed a record book Mule deer with a bow, rifle and muzzle loader as well as numerous other trophy deer over the last 10 years. He currently splits time working for his family company and S&S Archery. Jason is also a co-owner of Pure Elevation Productions.
Rob brings to S&S Archery two decades of IT experience and 8 years of customer service experience. With a passion (his wife calls it obsession) for backcountry bowhunting and a desire to help others achieve their goals, Rob is a great fit for S&S Archery. Rob has been hunting for more years then he can remember, but dove head first into backcountry bowhunting in 2013. Rob found backcountry hunting to be a lot like spending time with his USMC grunt unit in the field. Lots of hiking heavy packs in search of action. Two branch antlered bulls in his first three years of bowhunting is a testament to his work ethic and drive to find only the best gear and information available. Rob’s greatest asset is his hunting partner and wife Maria, who joins him in the backcountry as often as she can.
